Can shingles hurt my pregnancy?
Will a mother’s shingles hurt her baby?
Q:I developed shingles when I was 17 weeks pregnant. Will the baby be affected?
A:Shingles are considered to be a form of chicken pox. It’s actually a virus that has been dormant in your system from a previous infection. It comes out in a few patients when the immune system is in a weakened state, like during pregnancy. Shingles are harmless to you and your baby. However, they can be quite painful. I hope you’re on the road to a rapid recovery. Good luck and relax. Your baby is doing fine.
